tonight. i'm matt austin. >> and i'm ginger gadsden. we're going to get to that very important story for you in just a moment. but first, the chill is in the air and it's not leaving just yet. don't let this beautiful look outside fool you. it really looks nice out there. but it is cold outside. >> chief meteorologist tom sorrells joins us now to pinpoint our forecast first at 5:30. >> the sun is lying to you. it looks beautiful. if you parked your car outside, that feels great. but otherwise it does not feel great outside. freeze warning in effect tonight from gainesville to ocala to the villages all the way down through fruitland park into sumpter county. it's going to be a tough run tonight from northern lake county all the way up to flagler and all of volusia county also under the freeze warning. frost advisory for everyone else from sanford to leesburg kissimmee, cocoa beach, the cape, everyone south of the line right there is under a frost advisory.

i keep waiting for them to drop quicker. the sun is setting lower. the sky is clear. the wind is still wicked. 52 currently in leesburg. 52 in gainesville and 56 in orlando. 23-mile-an-hour winds is going to calm down. a 24-mile-an-hour wind in sanford, calming down and dropping our lows to 28 in ocala and 38 in orlando. i'll be back to pinpoint the warm-up, down the road. >> thank you, tom. danger on our streets forces a local mom to take action. she is fed up. no one is cracking down on drivers illegally passing school buses. so she came to news 6 to get results with video going back years showing those cars going around buses filled with kids. amanda castro is getting results tonight in the metro west area of orlando. >> she says her daughter was almost hit by a car while crossing the street this morning to catch her school bus.

been going on for years, drivers ignoring the stop signs. that's why she came to news 6 to get results. video shot this morning shows her daughter walking to the school bus and a car not stopping, coming very close to hitting the middle schooler. >> my daughter was right next to the car and the car just decided to go. >> she says she caught several cars on camera ignoring the school bus's flashing lights and stop signs. at the corner of metro park circle and old park lane in metro west. this video shows another driver speeding right past the bus with the lights on and stop signs out. most of the incidents she says happened in the morning. she's seen many cars drive right past the bus as students cross the street. she tells news 6 this has been happening for years. people should be aware of the laws with the stop signs on the sides of the bus and the red light and the sign comes out, you need to stop. >> but angie says they're not.

the school board to buy personal items with district money. the 55-year-old transportation specialist dale gunther of titusville was arrested late yesterday. investigators say he stole at least $10,000 and used it to buy items for vehicles not a part of the district's fleet. another employee, a 57-year-old, was also arrested earlier this month as part of the same investigation. >> police say quick action by a witness helped them put three car thieves behind bars tonight. deputies say these three people were taking the stereo out of a car in the 1200 block of barrywood lane in st. cloud. investigators say they got to the scene as the burglary was actually taking place. a witness saw what was happening and called dispatch about some suspicious activity. all three suspects are now facing multiple charges tonight. >> covering marion county now, two people have been arrested in what deputies are calling an

more than 25,000 packs of cigarettes were stolen from a winn-dixie. investigators say the two guys you just saw earlier worked together since last october. we're told one of them worked overnight cleaning the store floors and would put packs of cigarettes into a hidden compartment inside a crate. then he would sell them to the second man, who was found with more than $2,000 worth of merchandise along with $1900 in cash. >> orlando police cracking down on drivers who are cutting it too close to people in crosswalks. it was all a part of operation best foot forward. a program police say is getting results for pedestrian safety. a recent study shows orlando ranks as one of the most dangerous cities for people crossing the street. as police warned today, failing to yield to a pedestrian can be costly. tickets start around $160. >> i think there's too many distractions in the vehicles today. people aren't alert as to

>> just so you know, we're told police in orlando have at least two more crackdowns scheduled for this year. >> hit and runs. we report on them all the time. way too much. in fact, someone is killed almost every other day in a fatal hit-and-run crash here in florida. >> he didn't even put in a phone call for help to say i just hit somebody. >> a new law was supposed to help keep this from happening. but the hit-and-run numbers are only going up. news 6 anchor lisa bell investigates why the law does not seem to be working and what could be done to help make our streets safer. that's coming up tonight at 11:00. >> we're getting new information tonight on the fast-moving zika virus. the country's leading medical experts went before congress today warning about zika expanding into a significant number of cases in the near future. the virus is spread by mosquito bites and health experts with the c.d.c. confirmed it's linked to birth defects in pregnant

16 cases have been reported in florida but several popped up in central florida over the last week. the number has blossomed to 66 cases in a number of states, with 5 added from just yesterday alone. this week, the c.d.c. has upgraded its emergency operation center to a level 1 status. freeing up hundreds more employees to work on fighting the virus. >> we're working around the clock to find out as much as we can, as quickly as we can to inform the public and to do everything that we can do to reduce the risk to pregnant women. >> as of right now, there's no vaccine for the zika virus but as of today, it's been found in more than 30 countries around the world. what makes the virus especially difficult to trace is nearly 80% of people who get zika don't show any symptoms. >> right now it's time to get a check on the roads with julie broughton. >> we're looking at a slow ride on i-4 right now. this is i-4 at conroy.

away from me, that is westbound lanes. we're looking at a decent ride eastbound. notice how slow it is on i-4 westbound, folks trying to merge on i-4 westbound from conroy, dealing with a slow ride there. as we go in closer for you, again the colors on the map indicate the traffic flow. wherever we see red, yellow or orange, we're talking about a really slow ride. i-4 eastbound slows down past orange blossom trail and up to the state road 408 interchange where average speeds drop 10 to 15 miles per hour. we keep it slow heading into winter park and picking back up toward altamonte springs. to the southwest, the doctor phillips area and the attractions, i-4 is slow in each direction.

on head lice. parents have complained about their kids getting it repeatedly. >> now one woman has taken matters into her own hands to get rid of the nuisance once and for all. news 6 reporter loren korn takes a look at this new business in volusia county. >> the mother of three tells me she was so stressed out dealing with the lice situation at home, she didn't want other parents to go through the same thing, so she opened up lice e.r. >> it is definitely a stress on parents. >> she knows firsthand. >> i have three daughters that all ended up with head lice and the stress that i went through was crazy. >> in january, she got certified to properly remove the lice and open up her own business called lice e.r. >> i wanted to offer something here in town that would be an option for parents to ease the stress. >> it's only the second day for the clinic to be opened. >> we've had a big response.

lake, all of osceola and all of brevard county. you guys have the frost advisory in effect. winds are going to calm down and it spells a lot more widespread frost tomorrow morning. 60 is the current reading in melbourne. that's warm compared to everyone else. right now in daytona beach, we're at 56 degrees. other temperatures, 52 in ocala. 50 in the villages. 52 in leesburg and in orlando, we're holding at 56, 57 in kissimmee. >> 24-hour temperature change, we're 3 degrees colder already than we were yesterday at this same time. in the villages, you're already 7 degrees colder than yesterday. wind speeds are still pushing it. 23-mile-an-hour wind in orlando. 24 in cocoa beach. i promise you as the night wears on, that will change. here's my visible satellite. all the clouds are down south and peeling this way. so winds are going to die down.

colder air is pushing in, spelling for a chilly night. the hour-by-hour forecast for tonight into tomorrow, not all. we're talking more than 24 hours from now, a little bit of cloud cover will be building in from the north. friday brings in more clouds. saturday we make it way back up into the 70's. for tonight, here are the overnight lows. i'm calling the low in ocala tonight 28. 31 will do it in the villages. freeze warning in effect for all of flagler and volusia counties. daytona beach, i'm seeing 33 for you and 32 in palm coast. the official forecast in orlando, frost advisory, wind from the west 5 to 15. the overnight low is 38. here is tomorrow. first thing in the morning, temperature reading holding at 40. by noon tomorrow, 56. there's the daytime high of 64. the normal high is 73. we're still way down below where we ought to be. at least it's sunny and warmer. the wind will calm so we'll feel
